LODGING

Please note: On Saturday, June 18th, our dining rooms, Tap Room and patio will be closed during lunch service and early afternoon after which all of our drinking and dining venues will reopen. A Celebration of the Life of William G. Winterer will be taking place.

Bill Winterer, Owner and innkeeper of The Griswold Inn for 26 years and a long-time resident of Essex, gathered many friends and admirers over the years due to his extremely gregarious nature. A large number of guests is expected at this gathering. We appreciate your understanding of this unusual circumstance and hope we will be serving you soon.

"Colonial reproductions are legion, but for the real McCoy, set your sails for Essex, and stay at The Griswold Inn."New York Magazine

The Griswold Inn is defined by its uniqueness, and our guest rooms are no exception. We have 33 charming rooms, no two exactly alike. Our rooms are furnished with antiques, period reproductions and Leonard’s Beds - yes, the same Leonard’s that has supplied a bed or two to The White House. Some of our accommodations have fireplaces, some have views of “village life” and some boast glimpses of water. All have wireless internet access and private baths. A complimentary continental breakfast is also included.

We are often told that for anyone staying in Connecticut - or New England for that matter - there is no better location than The Griswold Inn. We are located on Main Street in historic Essex Village, named the “Best Small Town in America.” A few steps outside your door are the shops and galleries of Essex, as well as Essex harbor and the majestic Connecticut River. There are many, many Things To Do in the immediate area as well as within easy reach.
